A new Kura facility was to be constructed on the same property as the existing school (which was to be demolished), and LDE conducted geotechnical investigations for this award-winning Te Kura Kaupapa Māori (TKKM) o Ngāti Kahungunu O Te Wairoa Māori immersion school project.
The school is situated in what was essentially a paddock near the outskirts of town amongst the Hawkes Bay landscape with the new building set to provide modern learning environments with flexible learning spaces.
LDE carried out the preliminary geotechnical investigation of the site and was further engaged to conduct the detailed geotechnical investigation and provide foundation design recommendations. These investigations were to assess the nature and strength distribution of the soils beneath the property and determine any potential hazards presented to it, such as liquefaction and lateral spreading due to seismic activity.
The new building is a unique “ v” shape and approximately 1014m2 in area.
